M. Teresa Albert, age 89 of Marengo, died Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2015, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, March 23 2015, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with a Scripture Service at 7 p.m. Memorials may be contributed to the Rose Haven Activity Fund in her name.

She is survived by her children, Michele Patterson (Jack) of Marengo, Michael Albert (Becky) of Atkins, and Mitchell Robinson (Bruce) of Belle Plaine; seven grandchildren, Stacy (Jim) Rump of Cedar Rapids, Brad (Tamara) Patterson of Marengo, Tori (Jeremy) Wild of Atkins, Chad (Ashley) Albert of Cedar Rapids, Tyson Albert of Des Moines, Trena (Reece) Dodd of Belle Plaine, and Randy Robinson of Belle Plaine; eleven great-grandchildren, Maddie Rump of Cedar Rapids, Isabel and Gavin Patterson of Marengo, Parker, Kaiden, Gabby and Quinn Wild of Atkins, Shaylee, Macy, and Brock Dodd of Belle Plaine, and Maddux Albert of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are her siblings, Margaret Pope of Victor, John (Gerry) McGarry of Victor, Dorothy (Ralph) Nogal of Bellingham, WA, and Genevieve Davis of Williamsburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Varo in 1998, and two brothers, James and Edward McGarry.

Mary Teresa McGarry was born May 21, 1925 in Victor, Iowa, the daughter of James T. McGarry and Dorothy Peiffer McGarry. She graduated from St. John’s High School in Victor with the Class of 1943. Teresa married Varo Wayland Albert on February 20, 1946 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Victor.  Besides being a wife and mother, Teresa was employed with Amana Refrigeration for 22 years, retiring in 1989. She had also worked at Krauss Furniture, was a waitress for many years, and had served as the Ladora city clerk.

Teresa was a member of the Marengo Legion Auxiliary, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Guild. She was a former member of the Cedar Rapids Moose Lodge, and several union affiliations. She collected cardinals, enjoyed playing cards, fishing and camping. She liked to attend sporting events, and go dancing with Varo. She especially enjoyed the many family events and spending time with her loved ones.
