Allen C. “Charley” Clinton, age 71 of Norway, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Colonial Manor of Amana, following a brief illness. Memorial Services: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 5, 2013, Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford, with Rev. David Mosher officiating. The family with receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, January 4, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
Charley is survived by his wife, Iva; two daughters, Crystal Sebring (Derick) of Davenport, and Jolene Austin (Simon) of Squamish, BC, Canada; a son, Vance Clinton of Walford; six grandchildren, Jack and Michael Austin of Squamish, and Hannah, Brooke, Abigale and Madison Sebring of Davenport. Also surviving are his siblings, Bill Clinton (Pam) of Cedar Rapids, Bob Clinton (Kay) of Cedar Rapids, James Clinton (Janie) of Tama, Carol Sawyer of Marion, Barb Hearron (David) of Cedar Rapids and Kathy Ballew of Hiawatha. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ed and Erwin Jr., and three sisters, Rosalee Bryant, Sherry Werner and Elaine Myers.
Allen Charles Clinton was born December 29, 1941 in Lansing, Iowa, the son of Erwin and Ruth Sadler Clinton. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years stationed on the U.S.S. Independence based in Norfolk, VA, and then two years with the Reserves. He was united in marriage to Iva Meyer on June 8, 1969 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, rural Sumner, Iowa. Charley owned and operated his own hauling business for the last 25 years. He enjoyed playing cards, working crossword and sudoku puzzles, reading and computer games. He also liked to go to the casinos. But most of all, Charley enjoyed recycling people’s throw-aways. Charley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Walford.
