Glenna Evans, age 81, of Brooklyn, died Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn. Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 14, 2013, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established. The funds will be combined with the memorials received from her son Rob’s services.
Glenna is survived by her husband Robert J. Evans; a daughter Karen Soliday and husband Frank of Ankeny; and two grandsons, Mike Soliday and Bart Soliday of Ankeny. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Robert “Rob” on July 27, 2013, two brothers, Arthur and Wallace Keller, two sisters, Hazel LeBeau and Irma Reimers, a sister in infancy Shirley, and a sister Elsie at age 13.
Glenna Faye Keller was born November 19, 1931 in rural Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of James V. and Gertrude Kenyon Keller. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1949, and married Robert John “Bob” Evans on June 15, 1949 at Madison Church of Christ, rural Brooklyn.
Glenna was active assisting her husband, farming and with his business, Evans Construction, and volunteering in the community. She was an ambulance driver for Poweshiek County, and managed the roller skating rink in Brooklyn. She was a lifetime member of the Madison Church of Christ, and taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years. She helped with the Methodist Church donation center for many years. In earlier years she was active in 4-H, winning many awards and showing the champion dairy heifer at the fairs. She enjoyed her antiques, flowers, cats, bowling, and riding horses. She was a loving wife and mother and will be missed by her family and friends.
