Frances Arlene Griffith, age 93, of Brooklyn, died Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Brooklyn Community Estate. Funeral Mass: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 3, 2016, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, September 2, 2016, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.
Frances is survived by her children, Dan (Kandi) Griffith of Brooklyn, Dick (Nita) Griffith of Tyler, TX, Sue Griffith of Cedar Rapids, Charles “Shorty” (Robin) Griffith of Brooklyn, Kris (Jerome) Sass of Luana, Anne (Jim) Manatt of Brooklyn, Jim (Shelly) Griffith of Victor, Fred (Glenda) Griffith of Brooklyn, John (Lisa) Griffith of Victor, Dale (Candace) Griffith of Brooklyn and Sally (Mark) Hawkins of Brooklyn; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister Emma Lou Phelan of Minneapolis, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred in 2004, a daughter Carolyn Jo, brothers, William, Charles, and Robert Leeper, and sisters Mary Coburn, Lorraine Estes, and Polly Calderwood.
Frances Arlene was born July 25, 1923 in rural Brooklyn, the daughter of James and Helen Roth Leeper. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1940 and married Fred Griffith on September 1, 1941 at St. Patrick’s Rectory, Brooklyn. Frances was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She tended her home, raised her children, and helped her husband with their family hog buying business. She enjoyed canning, baking, gardening, sewing and crocheting. She liked to spend her leisure time playing cards and bingo. Frances was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
