Betty E. Guehrn, age 89, formerly of Marengo and Jesup, died Monday, December 8, 2014, at ABCM Rehab Center in Independence, Iowa. Memorial Service: 1:30 P.M. Friday, December 12, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, Marengo with Rev. Anni Mingin officiating. Inurnment will be in the Marengo Cemetery. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established.
Betty is survived by a daughter Adele Reinhart and husband Ray of Jesup; three grandchildren, Alex Reinhart (Rachal) of Waterloo, Alene Johnson (Guy) of Mount Vernon, and Aaron Reinhart (Brittney Warnke) of Waterloo; four great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Samantha, and Lindey Johnson and Talon Reinhart; a brother, John “Jack” Homer (Helen) of Charleston, WV, and a sister Maurene Jennison (Sam) of Burlington, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John on September 22, 2005, and a sister Jean Geitz.
Betty Elizabeth Homer was born January 8, 1925, in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of John Edward Homer and Florence Davis Homer. She graduated from Roosevelt High School, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1943 and married John Guehrn on June 21, 1945, in Marengo. Betty was employed over the years with Quaker Oats, and Killians, both in Cedar Rapids, Amana Refrigeration, and also spent many years working with her husband at his used machinery business.
Besides being a wife, mother and homemaker, she enjoyed all kinds of crafts, especially quilting. Betty was a 50 + year member of First Presbyterian Church in Marengo, where she had served as an elder. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, and also was a Girl Scout leader for a time.
