Virginia M. Heinze, age 95 of Marengo, died Tuesday evening, August 30, 2011 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Private family services will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 7 P.M. Friday, September 2, 2011 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the First Presbyterian Church, Marengo.
She is survived by her brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene W. Potter of Troy, Michigan; two nephews, Dave Potter and Ronel Scott, both of Royal Oak, Michigan; and a special friend, Ivan L. Christopherson of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Dr. Fred Heinze in 1990.
Virginia Myrl Potter was born February 2, 1916 in Allison, Iowa, the daughter of Lowell Harvey Potter and Ila Mae Hill Potter. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers’ College High School and was employed as a secretary until her marriage to Fred W. Heinze on December 1, 1945 in Tipton, Iowa. The couple moved to Marengo where he opened his chiropractic office in 1950. During their life, Fred and Virginia traveled extensively. They helped chiropractic students and also hosted international exchange students.
Virginia was a past member of Eastern Star and White Shrine. She was past president of the Chiropractic Auxiliary, a secretary of the National Chiropractic Auxiliary, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Virginia was a 50 year member of First Presbyterian Church in Marengo. Following her husband’s death in 1990, Virginia found peace in caring for her home and her pets. She also loved music and enjoyed sewing and spiritual study.
