Jerry B. Heisler, age 56 of Marengo, died Sunday, January 3, 2010 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital from lung cancer. Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 9, 2010, First Lutheran Church, rural Conroy, with Pastor Don K. Dovre officiating. Inurnment will be in Mound City, SD at a later date. Friends may call at the church after 9:00 A.M. on Saturday. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his beloved friend Gloria Martinson Burgy of Marengo; two sons, Jason Heisler and Jesse (Shelly) Heisler of Pierre, S.D.; a daughter Lonna Heisler of Des Moines, IA; and three grandsons, Benjamin, Noah and Levi Heisler. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy. Jerry was compassionate with animals, and leaves behind to mourn his loss his faithful pal Henry the cat.
Jerry Ben Heisler was born July 17, 1953 in Mobridge, SD, the son of Benjamin and Martha Steiger Heisler. He received his education in the Mound City schools and graduated from Herreid High School in 1971. Jerry married Debra Seiler in July of 1972. The couple later divorced. While living in South Dakota Jerry served as the Campbell County Assessor and also farmed. He moved to Williamsburg, IA in 1995 and was employed at Black and Decker at Tanger Outlet Mall. He also worked at the Williamsburg Care Center. In 2007, Jerry moved to Marengo where he was employed at Pamida and also helped at Colony Village Restaurant in Little Amana. He was a handyman and jack-of-all-trades. He was always willing to help family, friends, and neighbors. He was a perfectionist in every task that he undertook. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed perfecting his craft with his good friend Art Johnson. |
