Rosemary S. Heller, age 69 of Marengo, died Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 6, 2014, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in Koszta Cemetery, Marengo. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, December 5, 2014 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her husband Roger; a daughter Rita Thompson and husband Cary; a son Ross Heller and wife Sandy; four precious grandchildren, Brook and Bennett Thompson, and Morgan and Riley Heller; a sister Virginia Upah, and a sister-in-law Judy Formanek; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Howard and Richard Formanek, and Donald Formanek in infancy.
Rosemary Sylvia Formanek was born June 10, 1945 near Chelsea, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Sylvia Wisner Formanek. She attended rural country school through 8th grade and graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1963. Rosemary and Roger Heller were united in marriage on April 8, 1967 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Belle Plaine. The couple farmed in Iowa County for many years.
Rosemary worked as a secretary for over 40 years, 34 of those years for Iowa Valley School system as secretary to the superintendent. She also was active in her community, serving on the 4-H county extension committee, volunteering for the American Cancer Society, and the Marengo Memorial Hospital gift shop. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Guild and was a religious education teacher at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where she was a member.
Rosemary really enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She liked gardening, and sewing, which in the last few years included making dresses for Haiti. She looked forward to the outings she took with her many lady friends.
