Annabelle L. Klenk, age 78 of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell, Iowa. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 21, 2014, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial will be in Rector Cemetery, rural Chelsea, Iowa. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be contributed to Grace United Methodist Church, or the BGM Citizens Scholarship Fund.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Klenk-Morgan (Scott) of Eagle Lake, MN, and Marcia Owens (Greg) of Glenview, IL ; five grandchildren, Garrigan and Simon Morgan of Eagle Lake, and Emma, Madison and Chase Owens of Glenview; and a brother Ron Kajer (Linda) of Toledo. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kajer, Marlene Crabtree, and Lillian Ryan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lilburn Wayne Klenk in 1996, two brothers, Fred and Alfred Kajer, a sister Debbie in infancy, and two brothers-in-law, Hillis Klenk and Jim Ryan.
Annabelle Louise Kajer was born November 23, 1935 in Toledo, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Beulah Hand Kajer. She graduated from Toledo High School in 1953. She attended nursing school in Marshalltown, and went to work as a registered nurse at the Grinnell Hospital. Annabelle married Lilburn Klenk on September 30, 1956 in Toledo, Iowa. The couple farmed their entire lives. Annabelle was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed volunteering for her church and community, and socializing with her friends. She loved country music and being outside mowing the lawn and working in her garden. She was a member of Farm Bureau and Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn where she taught Sunday School for 29 years. She especially loved being with her children and grandchildren, and looked forward to the time she spent with them.
