Dorothy Lucille Krakow, age 88, of Marengo, died Friday, March 27, 2015 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 30, 2015, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo, with Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, March 29, 2015, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, the Marengo Memorial Hospital, or the American Heart Association.
Dorothy is survived by her brothers: Lyle Kurth (Carol) of Robins and William Kurth (Doris) of Marengo; brothers-in-law: Clarence Krakow (Kathy) of Belle Plaine, and Wayne Krakow (Else) of Marengo; sisters-in-law: Lillie Schmutz of Muscatine and Sylvia Kurth of Grand Terrance, CA, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Krakow on December 6, 2014, and her siblings, Orlin Kurth, Naomi Krakow, Robert Kurth and Maxine Slaymaker.
Dorothy Lucille Kurth , was born December 21, 1926 in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Verna William and Florence Emma Kanke Kurth. She graduated from Marengo High School in May 1946 and attended Coe College for 3 years, while teaching in the Iowa County country schools. She was united in marriage to George Andrew Krakow on August 3, 1963 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. Dorothy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo where she was active in Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was employed at HLV Schools and at Iowa Valley Schools as an ‘English as a second language’ instructor. She enjoyed reading, collecting salt and pepper shakers, working with and helping handicapped individuals, calling bingo at Rose Haven, and visiting with the residents.
