Naomi L. Krakow, age 91 of Marengo, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Memorial Service: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 28, 2015, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. Inurnment will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. Saturday, at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.
Naomi is survived by a daughter, Kathy Jo Kurth (Michael Denison) of Marengo; two grandchildren, Stephanie Weida and Michael Weida; four great-grandchildren, Angel Jansen, Hayden Weida, Braiden Weida and Liberty Hamilton. Also surviving are two brothers, William (Doris) Kurth of Marengo, and Lyle (Carol) Kurth of Robins; a sister Dorothy Krakow of Marengo; brothers-in-law, Wayne (Else) Krakow of Marengo, and Clarence (Kathy) Krakow of Belle Plaine; and a sister-in-law, Lillie Schmutz of Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer in 2014, and siblings, Orlin Kurth, Robert Kurth, and Maxine Slaymaker.
Naomi Laverna Kurth was born November 10, 1923 in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Verna William Kurth and Florence Emma Kanke Kurth. She received her education in the Marengo schools and married Elmer Ernest Krakow on September 6, 1958 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. Besides being a wife and mother, Naomi worked in the elementary school kitchen for 14 years. She also was a seed sorter at Pioneer Seeds for many years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo, the Ladies Aid, and the Marengo Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bingo, doing crosswords, church activities, knitting and sewing. She especially cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.
