Lucille Frieda Schaefer was born September 1, 1921, in East Amana, Iowa, the daughter of Rudolf and Lydia Hertel Schaefer. She graduated from Amana High School in 1939 and was united in marriage to Elmer Kraus on July 19, 1947 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Lucille was a secretary at Amana Refrigeration and later co-owned the Little Amana Winery. She was a member of the Amana Church, the Amana Arts Guild, Amana Heritage Society, and was a resident advocate at Colonial Manor for 20 years. Her greatest joys were butterflies, pansies, and people, especially the children who were so fond of her. She loved Amana, her church, and her family. News of a birthday, anniversary, illness or death, Lucille would immediately create a “fluff” cake, and a beautiful pressed flower card. We will miss her but rest in God’s peace knowing she is with HIM.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Colonial Manor and Lakeside Village for the love and excellent care given to Lucille during her stay. In addition the family wishes to thank friends and family members for all their support and love.
