Dean Evan “Dino” Neitzel, age 64 of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Sunday, May 17, 2015 at his home. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 22, 2015, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with Rev. Henry Goetz officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery, What Cheer, Iowa, with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday, May 21, 2015, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.
Dean is survived by his children, son, Roy Neitzel (Tammy), daughter, Jennifer Neitzel (Kevin Robertson) and two grandchildren, Brylee and Davian Thompson, all of Delta; his mother Evelyn Neitzel of Grinnell; a sister Julie Neitzel of Grinnell, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, and two brothers, Dick and Steve.
Dean was born December 25, 1950 in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Marlin and Evelyn Lane Neitzel. He graduated from Grinnell High School in 1970 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Dean and Roma Matteson were united in marriage on January 26, 1983 in Brooklyn, Iowa. Although the couple later divorced, they remained friends. Dean was employed with Donaldson’s in Grinnell making mufflers, and then with Manatt’s for over 35 years, driving a dump truck.
He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and mushroom hunting. He liked to watch the St. Louis Rams, and NASCAR, and spend some time gambling at the casinos. He especially enjoyed the many family get-togethers and barbeques on the holidays.
