Fred Derby Oswalt, age 79, died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at his home in High Amana. Funeral Services with Military Honors: 10:30 A.M. Monday, May 16, 2011, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Dr. Leonard B. Ranson officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery, Richland, IA. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.

He is survived by his wife Violet, three children, Darla Biwer of Cedar Rapids, Dennis Oswalt of Bozemann, MT and David Oswalt of High Amana; four grandchildren, Lindsey Oswalt (Justin), Kayla, Breanna and Cheyenne Oswalt; and a sister Cheryl George of Marengo. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Kathryn Prevett Cronbaugh and a son-in-law John Biwer.

Fred Derby Oswalt was born January 22, 1932 in Richland, Iowa, the son of Virgil Edward and Fleeta G. Derby Oswalt. He graduated from Richland High School in 1949, and served in the U.S. Navy for 5 years, stationed at Norfolk, VA. Fred married Violet Cynthia Marie Prevett on December 27, 1955 in Peace Valley, MO. He was employed for 37 years at Amana Refrigeration. In his free time, Fred enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and spending time at his cabin on the river.
