Karla Sue Rathjen, age 46, of Marengo, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 6, 2016, while surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 12, 2016, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo, with Fr. David Wilkening officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. Visitation: 2 to 7 p.m., Sunday, September 11, 2016, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. There will be scripture service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established.
Karla is survived by her parents Gordon and Verna Goeldner; her husband Todd; three daughters Deena, Miranda, and Chelsie Rathjen; two brothers Steve (Renee) Goeldner, Craig (Dawn) Goeldner; two sisters Sara (Todd) Grimm, Christine (Brent) Bral; and a very close friend Lorrainne (Mike) Curry; nieces and nephews Lily Reuter, Lexi, and Grant Goeldner, Brooklyn, Sophia, Aidan Grimm, Brecken and Nash Bral. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Cletus and Mildred Esser, Irvin and Katie Goeldner and her little sister Diane Goeldner.
Karla Sue Goeldner was born September 20, 1969, in Sigourney, the daughter of Gordon and Verna Esser Goeldner. She graduated from high school in 1988 and attended Kirkwood for one year. Karla was united in marriage to Todd Rathjen on September 7, 1991, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo. She worked at Grinnell State Bank in Loan Administration, Jerran’s Storm Drains as a bookkeeper, as well as Phat Daddy’s. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and playing Pinochle. Most of all, Karla loved following the interests of her three daughters.
