Richard Dean Rhinehart, age 80, of Brooklyn, died Monday, January 25, 2016 at Brooklyn Community Estate. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2016, at the First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, with Rev. John Reynolds Jr. officiating. Burial will be at the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation: 9 to 11 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.
Richard is survived by a daughter Darla (Tim) Ingersoll of Brooklyn; three sons, Mark (Kayleen) Rhinehart of Brooklyn, Lynn (Debbie) Rhinehart of North Liberty, Steven (Jennifer) Rhinehart of Grinnell; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren; three step-sons, Marvin (Leigh) Hilligas of Ladora, Mark Hilligas of Brooklyn and Lee (Becky) Hilligas of Arizona; four step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; a sister, Alice Holmes of California; two brothers, Duane (Penne) Rhinehart of Victor and Paul Rhinehart of Brooklyn. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy in 2013, a daughter Connie and a sister Marjorie Gilliland.
Richard was born February 22, 1935, in rural Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of Walter and Ruth Combs Rhinehart. He received his education in the Brooklyn Schools. He married Dorothy McDonald January 29, 1973. Richard did various jobs such as roofing and building skids for Scot-Ark. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the North American Fishing Club. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and deer hunting with family and friends.
