Maxine G. Roberts, age 86, of Belle Plaine, died Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Keystone Care Center, Keystone, Iowa. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 1, 2016, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn, Iowa, with Fr. Brian Shepley officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn, Iowa. Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established.
Maxine is survived by her husband Cecil; two daughters, Julie (Bob) Breja, Belle Plaine, and Jeanne (Ed) Langhurst, Marion; a daughter in law, Sandy Roberts, Brooklyn; eight grandchildren, Shawn Roberts, Brooklyn, Scott Roberts, Brooklyn, Jason Roberts (Angela McCammant), Deep River, Amber Muntz, Phoenix, AZ, Ed Langhurst, Cedar Rapids, Carly Robertson, Marion, Shannon (Derek) Brimeyer, Balltown, and Joey (Kayla) Breja, Pella; thirteen great-grandchildren, Matthew, Dalton, Cody, Levi, Breanna, Eli, Emily, Jerica, Aadin, Jaadin, Ashley, Braelyn and Blake; and one great-great-grandson, Caden; two sisters, Kay Ostrom, Brooklyn, and Shirley Blomme, Hartwick; and a very special friend Jeani Brandt. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Terry, three brothers Edward, Wally and Dee Roth; and two sisters Ellie Bevins, and Vivian Himschoot.
Maxine Gertrude Roth was born January 26, 1930, in rural Hartwick, the daughter of Fritz and Gertrude Dee Roth. She graduated from Hartwick Schools. Maxine and Cecil Roberts were united in marriage May 4, 1948, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn, Iowa. She was a member of St. Bridget’s and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Altar and Rosary. She was a cook at the Hartwick School and later worked at Amana Refrigeration. She sold Stanley Home Products and also helped Cecil in their Amoco Oil business with the bookkeeping. Maxine was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, going to bingo and to the casino, reading, and playing cards. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, her special pet Murphy and wintering in Florida.
