Delmar Peter Schindler, age 95, of Marengo, Iowa, died Saturday, January 16, 2016, in his home.  Funeral services:  10:30 A.M. Thursday, January 21, 2016, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo, with Rev. Andrew Gray officiating.  Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors.  Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Delmar is survived by his wife Irene, a sister Irene, and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Calvin and Milver Schindler; and a sister Shirley Dye.

Delmar Schindler was born August 9, 1920, in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Charles and Katie Klotz Schindler.  He received his education in the Marengo Schools. He served in the U.S. Air force from 1941-1945.  Delmar married Irene Snelson on June 11, 1950 at First United Methodist Church in Marengo.  He worked at the local Me Too grocery store.  He was a life time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo Iowa and was also a member of the Marengo American Legion Post 76.  Delmar enjoyed gardening, woodworking, hunting and fishing, and especially spending time with his family and many friends.
