Donald “Don” Schluter, age 87 of Blairstown died Sunday, December 6, 2009 at his home. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Friday December 11, Grace Lutheran Church, Blairstown with Rev. David P. Remfer officiating. Burial will be in the Koszta Cemetery, Marengo. Visitation: 4-7 P.M. Thursday December 10, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
Don is survived by his wife Dorothy of 58 years; three sons: Donald, David, and Daniel of Blairstown; two daughters: Darlene Lenoch of Blairstown and Dorene Wilcox (Kenneth) of Marshalltown; three grandchildren: Chelsea and Brian Lenoch and Brad Wilcox; and three great grandchildren: Charlotte Dillon, Janelle Phillips, and Brody Wilcox; and a brother Dale Schluter of Belle Plaine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Darlene Brecht, and Frances Louisa Schluter in infancy; a brother Albert Schluter; and a grandson Brandon Collins.
Donald Frederick Schluter was born February 24, 1922 in Koszta, Iowa, the son of Henry W. and Anna Mary Chekal Schluter. He received his primary education in the Iowa County country schools and graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1940. He married Dorothy Smith on August 25, 1951 in the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA. Prior to his marriage he worked for Wilson Foods. After his marriage he farmed and worked as an assembler at Amana Refrigeration for ten years.
Don was an avid HAM radio operator. He was also a gifted musician and played a variety of instruments by ear. In later years, Don loved to bake cookies and pies for friends and family.
