Donald Albert Shoup, age 82, of South Amana, died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Colonial Manor of Amana. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 31, 2011, Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana with Elder Tony Berger officiating. Burial will be in the South Amana Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the Middle Amana Community Church. Memorials may be contributed to the Amana Church Society. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
Donald is survived by his son Mike Shoup and wife Susan, and his daughter Sandy Jennings and husband Joe, all of South Amana; four grandchildren, Matt Reihman, Lynn Reihman (Amy), Will Jennings and Erin Shoup. He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouse Emily Shoup, and a brother William Shoup.
Donald Albert Shoup was born April 20, 1929 in South Amana, Iowa, the son of Albert and Henrietta Zuber Shoup. He graduated from the Amana High School in 1947. Donald served in the U.S. Army for 2 years, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He married Emily Jane Setzer on August 9, 1953 in South Amana. Donald worked for the Amana Farms for seven years. He worked for the Amana Society, Inc. in corporate management for 27 years. He served on the Amana Society, Inc. Board for 33 years. He also served as president on the Amana Nordstrom Inc. Board of Directors for 25 years.
Donald was an elder in the Amana Church for 38 years; a member of the Amana Colonies Convention and Visitors Bureau for 30 years; the Cedar Rapids Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors for 10 years; the Iowa Travel Council Board of Directors for 10 years; and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Board of Directors for 10 years.
Don enjoyed gardening, carving, drawing and hunting. He also liked to sing, play the piano and the trumpet. He will be remembered for his smiling face and his classic “whistle”.
