Janet M. Slaymaker, age 78 of Marengo, died Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Memorial Service: 2 P.M. Saturday, September 12, 2015, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. The family will receive friends after 1 P.M. Saturday until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be contributed to the Iowa Valley Community Schools, Essence of Life Hospice, or Safe Haven of Iowa County in her memory. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.
Janet Mae Hollrah was born October 24, 1936 in Sac City, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis J. Hollrah and Helen M. Bruns Hollrah. She graduated from Mitchellville High School with the Class of 1955. Janet worked at Amana Refrigeration for several years as an inspector of the Radar Range and Side by Side lines. She also worked at the Iowa Valley elementary school as a cook for many years. She enjoyed sports and loved attending many games and meets over the years. She also enjoyed working in her yard.
Janet is survived by her daughter Angie (Randy) Carney of Marengo; her son Anthony “Tony” (Wynnette) Slaymaker of Riverside; four grandchildren, Lyndsey Carney of Marengo, Holly (John) Hinshaw of Marengo, and Eli and Stella Slaymaker of Riverside; a sister Virginia Remsburg of Phoenix, AZ; and her beloved four-legged grandbaby “Braydee”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Gene, Bob, Duane and Bill Hollrah, and two sisters Dorothy Hollrah and Sandra Fuller; and her loyal companions, Maggie and Britt.
