Kenneth M. Smith, age 93, formerly of Blairstown, died Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Keystone Care Center in Keystone, IA. Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 9, 2014, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Matt German officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 A.M. on Tuesday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be contributed to the Alzheimer’s Association, or Keystone Care Center.
Kenneth is survived by two daughters, Sandy Cerveny of Flossmoor, IL, and Lea Longfellow and husband Bill of Alburnett, IA; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Smith of Anamosa; and a sister-in-law, Bev Smith of East Moline, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Catherine in August 2014, and five brothers, Lawrence, Gerald, Wallace, Ray, Jr. and Gary.
Kenneth Melvin Smith was born November 6, 1921 in Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of Ray and Lucy Andes Smith. He attended the Iowa county schools, and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy. Kenneth and Catherine Mae Parry were united in marriage on January 10, 1947 in Ladora. The couple farmed in Iowa and Benton County for many years.
Kenneth was a member of the Blairstown American Legion Post # 170.
