Kenneth C. “Bud” Smith, age 84, died Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 18, 2015, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Matt German officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, April 17, 2015 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
He is survived by his children, LuAnn Lacy of Kansas, David Smith (and the late Diane Smith) of New Sharon, Kenneth E. Smith of Montezuma, Roger Smith (Linda) of Mount Vernon, Mark Smith of Iowa City, and Kimberly Morris of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren, Randy Lacy of Kansas, Brett Lacy of Kansas, Rod Lacy (Kathy) of Kansas, Amy VanManen (Lonnie) of Sully, Chad Lacy (Beth) of Kansas, Paul Smith (Trina) of Georgia, Justin Smith (Carrie Thompson) of Montezuma, Brooke Noland (Chuck) of Louisiana, Josie Meineke and Johnnie Morris; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Kevin Smith, five sisters, Donna, Glenda, Helen, Betty and Dorothy, and four brothers, Tillman, Doug, Irvin, and Dennis.
Kenneth Cody Smith was born September 6, 1930 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of David and Alice Parvin Smith. He received his education in the country school near High Amana. In his earlier years, Bud counted cattle and fixed fences on horseback for the Amana Society. He was employed over the years as an iron worker with Iowa Steel, making car accessories at Sheller Globe, and a greeter at Walmart in Cedar Rapids.
Kenneth and Nevada Pearl Smith were united in marriage, and to this union a daughter and four sons were born. The couple later divorced. He and Carol Miller were married and a son was born to this union.
Kenneth enjoyed playing checkers, yodeling, fishing, and hunting, and never missed a local garage sale. He had a sweet tooth and liked Pepsi, Hershey bars, and vanilla ice cream. He also enjoyed going for rides with his family and friends. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
