Donna Lea Van Lancker, age 78 of Marengo, formerly of Victor, died Monday, February 23, 2015 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 27, 2015, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Matt German officiating. Inurnment will be in Victor Memorial Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the Iowa County Historical Society, Safe Haven of Iowa County, or the Marengo Senior Dining Program.
Donna is survived by her daughter Debra Kay Davidson and husband Tom of Marengo; a brother Gary Foster of Mission, TX; an aunt, Nadine Shaull of Marengo; a nephew, Timothy Foster (Cookie) of Galesburg, IL ; a niece Tracee Van Arkel (Dave) of Malcom; two grandnephews, two grandnieces and a great-grandnephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Marilyn Kay Foster in 1951.
Donna Lea was born May 22, 1936 in rural Victor, Iowa, the daughter of Rex Palmer and Thelma Elizabeth Shaull Foster. She received her early education in the country schools and graduated from Victor High School in 1954. Donna married Vernon Edward Van Lancker on October 5, 1955 at the Victor United Methodist Church. The couple later divorced.
Donna enjoyed listening to the music of the 50’s, and the old time country music. She was an avid Hawkeye fan, especially the Mens’ and Women’s Basketball, and Football. She enjoyed bowling, watching television, and playing Skip Bo and euchre. She was creative, and many of her nativity sets were gifted to family and friends. Donna liked to watch and feed the birds outside her apartment window. She took great interest in her family and close friends and cherished each and every moment with them. She also loved animals, and Abby, her Yorkie, was a constant companion for years.
