Leo “Pete” Glen VonLienen, age 80 of Marengo, IA, died Monday, November 23, 2009 at his home following a sudden illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 28, 2009, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Katie Z. Dawson officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery, Marengo. Friends may call from 5 to 7 P.M. Friday, November 27, 2009, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
Leo is survived by his sons; Richard “Rick” VonLienen of Cedar Rapids, Christopher VonLienen of Iowa City, and a daughter Stephanie VonLienen of North Liberty; three grandchildren; Chase VonLienen, Breanna VonLienen, and Elijah Adney; and a brother George VonLienen of Macon, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lorraine in 2005, two brothers; Dean VonLienen and Jay VonLienen, and a sister Dorothy Gardner.
Leo “Pete” VonLienen was born March 2, 1929 in rural Williamsburg, IA, the son of John VonLienen and May Schafbuch. He graduated from Hilton High School, Conroy, IA in 1946. Leo married Lorraine Eichler on February 2, 1962 in Dubuque, IA. He farmed for many years in Iowa County and was the plant manager of Standard Oil’s Blairstown, IA LP facility.
Pete was an aviator and loved to spend time flying his Cessna 170. He also enjoyed fishing with his friend Jack Banse in Alaska. |
