Emery E. Barker, age 89 of Brooklyn, died Monday, November 28, 2011 at Brooklyn Community Estate.  Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, December 1, 2011, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with Mr. Dennis Smith officiating.  Burial will be in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorials may be contributed to Hospice Compassus or Good News Productions.

Emery is survived by his wife Doris; a daughter Marsha Hash and husband Gary of Brooklyn; a grandson Jeremy Hendrickson; step grandchildren, Chris Hash, and Sara Ouren (Matt); several nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Marcella Myers Barker, a brother Willard Barker, two sisters, Helen Schumacher and Oma Pearl Allen, brothers-in-law Herb Schumacher and Arlie Allen, sisters-in-law Dorothy Barker and Mary Barker, and a niece Janice Kay Schumacher Weiss.

Emery Eugene Barker was born February 11, 1922 in McLeansboro, Illinois, the son of Alfred and Marcella Myers Barker.  He attended the McLeansboro schools. Emery served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946, stationed in the Philippines, and then Korea.  He married Doris Ilene Wools on December 3, 1947 in Morganfield, KY. The couple adopted Marsha Ann in 1953. He was employed as an overhead crane operator for over 40 years with Inland Steel Company in East Chicago, IN. Emery and Doris moved to Brooklyn in 2010 to be near their daughter and her family. Emery enjoyed painting pictures and working on cars. He loved to play pool and spent many hours outdoors and caring for his yard. He was a member of the American Legion, the DAV and the Christian Church in Griffith, IN.
