Louise D. Blechschmidt, age 101 of Amana, formerly of East Amana, died Monday, May 9, 2011 at Colonial Manor of Amana. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 12, 2011, Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana with Elder Alan Trumpold officiating. Burial will be in the East Amana Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at the Middle Amana Community Church, Middle Amana. Memorials may be contributed to the Amana Church Society, Essence of Life Hospice or Colonial Manor of Amana. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

Louise is survived by her daughters, Luella Lear (Charles) of Peachtree City, GA, and Linda Schuerer (Ronald) of East Amana; four grandchildren, Craig Lear (Stephanie) of St. Joseph, MO, Kristin Wright (Michael) of Columbia, MD, Rayme Schuerer (Michelle) of Amana and Jennifer Kaefring (Kevin) of Williamsburg; eight great-grandchildren, Braeden, Maggie Louise, and Kellen Lear, Victoria, Katherine, and Kiernan Wright, and Jesse and Macey Schuerer. Also surviving is her sister, Dorothy Trumpold of Colonial Manor of Amana. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Rudolph on January 8, 1990.

Louise Dorothea Schuerer was born March 30, 1910 in East Amana, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin J. and Catherine Hess Schuerer. She attended the Amana Schools and married Rudolph C. Blechschmidt on April 3, 1930 in the East Amana Church. Louise assisted her husband along with her sister-in-law Emma Bahndorf in operating the East Amana Store. Louise enjoyed being outdoors in the garden and taking care of her flowers. She enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago White Sox. She also liked to watch CNN. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Amana Church Society and the Amana Heritage Society.
