Howard M. Bowman, age 82 of Pflugerville, TX, formerly of Williamsburg, died Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Heartland Health Center in Austin, TX. Memorial Service: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 27, 2008, First Presbyterian Church Williamsburg, with Rev. Forrest Krummel officiating. Inurnment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, rural Conroy, IA. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made in memory of Howard to Lighthouse Hospice of Austin, c/o Helen Coffman, 3410 Far West Blvd, Suite 230, Austin, TX 78731. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, IA is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Vera; his children, Debra K. Olson (Mark) of Atkins, IA, Vicki L. Bowman of Pflugerville, TX, Larry E. Bowman of Newfane, NY, Julie A. Tippie (Randy) of North English, IA, and Carol Trinidad (Gabriel) of Austin, TX; 8 grandchildren, Alison Dohrman (Jeff) of Round Rock, TX, Darrin Tippie (Diane) of Williamsburg, IA, Katie Tippie-Rogers (Travis Rogers) of Iowa City, IA, Andrew Bowman (Kandy) of Cortlan, IL, Amy Bowman of New York, NY, Emily Olson of Cedar Rapids, IA, Joel Olson of Ames, IA, and Ashley Olson of Atkins, IA; nine great-grandchildren, Seth, Kameryn, Whitney, Tayler, Madison, Morgan, McKenna, Kaitlyn and Alaina; and a sister Dolores Hollopeter (Frank) of Victor, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Lyle Howard in 1962.

Howard Melvin Bowman was born September 11, 1926 in Victor, Iowa, the son of Will C. and Amy Gerard Bowman. He graduated from Victor High School in 1944. He married Vera Martens on August 20, 1950 at Shimer Presbyterian Church in Conroy, IA. Howard farmed in Pilot Township for several years, owned and operated Bowman Sweet Shop, and worked for the highway commission. He was employed with the University Of Iowa for 20 years, retiring in 1988. He also was a school bus driver for the Williamsburg school system and a truck driver for ten years with James Martens. Howard was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg, and the Church of the Master in Mesa, AZ. He volunteered for various functions while living in Sunland Village in Mesa. He enjoyed golf, playing cards, and had a small tractor collection. He loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
