Barbara E. Brown, age 83 of Marengo, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Funeral Services: 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 16, 2011, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Pastor Eddie Thomas officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, March 16, at Kloster Funeral Home. Burial: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, March 17, 2011, Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. A memorial fund has been established.
Barbara is survived by her son David Brown and two daughters, Bonnie Martin (David) and Diane Brown all of Marengo; five grandchildren, Amy Labath, Jessica Martin, Wesley Brown, Zachariah Brown and Jennifer Gorsch; six great grandchildren, Summer and Savanna Labath, John and Samuel Gorsch, and Kayle and Ayden Brown. Also surviving are several half brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1996, and a grandson John Martin.
Barbara Estrellita Emmick was born October 30, 1927 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Harry Emmick and Lucille Lemon Emmick. She received her education in the Sioux City schools and married Albert “Biddle” Brown on November 1, 1946 in West Liberty, Iowa. The couple moved to Marengo in 1986.
Barbara was a loving homemaker, wife and mother. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Barb enjoyed camping, fishing and playing bingo. She also enjoyed bowling and kept the records and statistics for the league for over 50 years. Barb loved spending time with her grandchildren.
