Joe A. Carney , age 58 of Iowa City, died Friday, July 24, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, following a brief illness. Memorial Mass: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 1, 2009, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg, with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Parnell, Iowa. The family will receive friends after 8:30 A.M. Saturday at the church. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by two daughters, Candace Tarr (Jason) of Beacon, IA, and Margo Breeden (Jamie) of Grinnell; six grandchildren and a great grandchild; a brother Terry Carney (Antonette) of Deltona, FL and a sister Margaret “Meg” Wille (Laverne) of Belle Plaine. Also surviving are Joe’s other biological brothers and sisters, Dennis Smith (Connie) of Fort Wayne, IN, Patrick Smith of Santa Anna, CA, Cecila Neylon (Steve) of Rockford, IL and Nancy Baca (John) of Allerton, WA. He also leaves behind very close friends, Craig Steffen of Iowa City and Roger and Sherry Steffen of Cedar Rapids. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and a brother John Smith.
Joseph Arthur Carney was born October 6, 1950 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of Joseph and Verna Wiedemeier Carney. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1969 and served in the U.S. Marines. Joe was employed at IAC (Sheller Globe) on the assembly line for 23 years. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the company of his many friends |
