| Edward E. Cox, age 86 of Oxford, Iowa, died Saturday, October 11, 2008 at his home following an extended illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 9:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 14, 2008, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Oxford, IA with Fr. Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Oxford. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Monday, October 13, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford, where there will be a Rosary recited at 7:30 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.

He is survived by his wife Linda; six children, Janice McCalley (Mark) of Oxford, Ronald Cox (Colleen) of Oxford, Gerald Cox (Sandra) of Tiffin, Karen Meek (Duane) of Conroy, Nancy Kinney (Tim) of Oxford and Michael Cox (Jeanette) of Oxford; eleven grandchildren, Jason and Jordan Meek, Brian, Daniel, and Jeremy Cox, Shannon and Zachary Cox, Melissa and Mallory Kinney and Jessica and Alex Cox; twelve great -grandchildren and a sister, Anna Mary Cox of Williamsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Raymond Cox and his stepmother Josephine Cox.
Edward Ellsworth Cox was born December 18, 1921 in Holbrook, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Esther Gorvin Cox. He attended the Iowa County schools and married Linda Ahlman on July 3, 1944 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He served in the U.S. Army for 4 years stationed overseas during World War II. Following his discharge, Edward farmed and operated a trucking business. Following retirement he spent his time mowing at Kent Park in Johnson County. Ed was a member of the Oxford American Legion Post 537, the Oxford Fire Department and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford. He enjoyed coon and deer hunting, pony pulling, fishing, playing cards and horseshoes, and tractor pulling. |
