Roy Alan Denzler, Jr. age 90 of Marengo, died Friday, June 6, 2008 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, Marengo with Rev. Katie Z. Dawson officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 P.M. Monday, June 9, 2008 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Roy is survived by his wife Margaret; two sons, Jeffrey “Jerry” Denzler and wife Carole of Marengo, and Stephen and wife Judy of Phoenix, AZ; a daughter Marilyn Koch of Ames; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Roy Alan Denzler, Jr. was born March 12, 1918 in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Roy and Adelaide Bright Denzler. He graduated from Marengo High School in 1936. Roy married Margaret A. Reece on March 12, 1941 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Iowa City, Iowa. In the 1940’s Roy worked at the canning factory in Marengo. He farmed in Washington Township with his father, worked at Amana Refrigeration as a guard, and was a rural mail carrier.

Roy loved watching the Hawkeye basketball teams and was an avid Cubs fan. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.
