| Lavona “Vonie” Berry Donohoe, age 72, of Parnell, died Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 17, 2007, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Parnell. Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M. Friday, February 16, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Parnell. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by three daughters, Vanessa Spratt and husband Ed of Williamsburg, IA, Mary Fessler and husband Steve of Wabasha, MN, and Jane Heitshusen and husband Quentin of Farragut, IA; eight grandchildren, Kellie, Kim, and Jacob Spratt, Emily Adams and husband Tim, Chelsea Fessler, and Carroll, Clara, and Joseph Heitshusen; and one great-granddaughter, Brielle Adams. In addition she is survived by two brothers, Neil Kleinmeyer of Cedar Rapids and Jim Kleinmeyer of Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth Donohoe in 2004 and her first husband Carroll Berry in 1974.
Lavona Mary Kleinmeyer was born December 30, 1934 in Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Arnold and Luella McShane Kleinmeyer. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1952. Vonie owned and operated the Shamrock Café in Parnell for many years. She was also a school bus driver. Vonie married Carroll Berry on May 1, 1954. He died in 1974. She married Kenneth E. Donohoe on December 10, 1976 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Parnell.
Vonie was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Parnell, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Vonie enjoyed bingo, gambling, and playing cards. She was an avid Cubs fan and was a faithful follower of the grandchildren’s sports activities. |
