Alice W. Eichacker, age 95 of Amana, formerly of Homestead, died Monday morning, September 5, 2005 at Colonial Manor Care Center, following an extended illness. Funeral services: 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at the Middle Amana Community Church with Elder Emilie Hoppe officiating. Burial will be in the Amana Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at the Middle Amana Community Church. Memorials may be donated to the charity of the donor’s choice. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by a son R.C. Eichacker of Middle Amana; two daughters, Dorothy Riepe of Vinton and Rosalie Henry (Dale) of Amana; and 9 grandchildren, Becky Williams (John), Tim Scheurs (Jan), Pam Brandt (Tom), Nina Scott (Gary), Eric Eichacker (Julie), Sara Paul (Terry), Susan Martens (Doug), Robert Henry (Pam), and Patrick Henry (Debra). Also surviving are 28 great-grandchildren, 5 step-great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, Louise Leonhardt Haldy; her husband Charles on June 25, 1984, two sisters, Nora Ackerman and Helen Kippenhan, a half-brother, Leonard Haldy, and a son-in-law, Robert Riepe.

Alice W. Haldy was born May 6, 1910 in Middle Amana, the daughter of Henry and Louise Mehlhorn Haldy. She received her education in the Amana schools and married Charles Eichacker on December 17, 1931 in Homestead. Alice was a postal clerk at the Homestead Post Office for over 30 years. She was a member of the Amana Church Society and the Homestead Welfare Club. She, along with her husband operated a hobby ceramics business for many years.
