Albert Eugene “Gene” Fry, age 85, died Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Graveside Services: 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Marengo Cemetery, Marengo, Iowa with Rev. Katie Dawson officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Marengo American Legion Post #76. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife Doris; a son Randy and wife Jane of Marengo; three grandchildren, Samantha, Natalie and Benjamin Fry; two brothers, Herb Fry and wife Bobbi of Williamsburg, and DeWayne Fry of Belle Plaine; and two sisters Lucille Fearneyhough of Sedalia, MO and Shirley Possehl and husband Larry of Amana. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harold and Bill and four sisters, Betty Vogel, Ruby Patterson, Lavera Cheney and Nellie Patterson.

Albert Eugene was born January 6, 1924 in Versailles, Missouri, the son of William and Dolly Waterhouse Fry. He received his education in the Iowa County schools. Gene served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Doris M. Turner on May 27, 1946 at the Methodist parsonage in Marengo. He was a self employed paint contractor for over 50 years.

Gene enjoyed working on old cars and motorcycles and any other project that folks needed help with. He always was working on something with his son Randy. He especially enjoyed hunting with his dogs. He was a member of the Marengo American Legion Post #76.
