| David L. George, age 70 of Marengo, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the Washington Care Center in Washington, IA following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Jim Davis officiating. Burial will be in Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the funeral home. Memorials may be contributed to the National Kidney Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl; a son Jeff and wife Ann of Marengo; three grandchildren, Nicole VanDee and Whitney VanDee of Iowa City and Chase VanDee of Williamsburg; two brothers, John of Weyouwega, WI and Richard of Chariton; two sisters, Dorothea Neibaur of Galt, CA and Marge Haider of Sacramento, CA, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Becky VanDee in 2007, three brothers, Jimmey, Lee and Bud, and two sisters, Pearl in infancy and Jennifer Raether.
David Lloyd George was born October 17, 1938 in Rochdale, Indiana, the son of Robert Stewart and Genieva Byrd George. David married Cheryl Oswalt on September 21, 1963 in Marengo, Iowa. He was employed by the Cedar Rapids Community Schools for several years, then went to work for Kraus Equipment of Walford. Most recently he owned and operated D & C Salvage in Marengo. He closed the business and retired in 1998 due to ill health. David enjoyed attending flea markets and garage sales. He loved to work in the gardens and tend his flowers. He also enjoyed fishing. |
