Gene F. Griffin, age 82 of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Williamsburg, died Friday, March 20, 2009 at home following an extended illness. Graveside services: 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Harrington (East York) Cemetery, Williamsburg, with Rev. Sonda Kirsteatter officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 7 P.M. Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to Olivet Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn; a son Larry Griffin and wife Debbie of Cedar Rapids; and one grandson, Scott Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Glenn, and Merlyn.

Gene Franklin Griffin was born April 21, 1926 in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Isaac Abraham and Margaret Annette Faltinson Griffin. He graduated from Parnell High School in 1945. Gene was in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Germany, France, and Belgium and received a Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal in Germany. Gene married Evelyn Clara Evans on November 1, 1952 in Fairfield, Iowa. He was employed at Iowa Electric Light and Power Co, retiring in July 1984. Gene was affiliated with the Olivet Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, and enjoyed biking, walking, traveling, and wintering in Florida for 20 years.
