Dora E. Gritsch , age 90 of Brooklyn, died Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, November 25, 2008, First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn with Rev. John Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7:30 P.M. Monday, November 24, 2008 at Kloster-Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Memorials may be contributed to the First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn or the Iowa City Hospice.

She is survived by two daughters, Dona Emmert and husband Dale of Grinnell and Doris Gregory and husband Don of Montezuma; a son Dennis Gritsch and wife Brenda of Iowa City; 8 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and a sister, Opal Barns of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard in 1972, and two brothers, Charles and Robert Dillon.

Dora Emma Dillon was born March 31, 1918 in Velpen, Indiana, the daughter of George and Lelah Wineinger Dillon. The family moved to Iowa in 1924. Dora attended Hartwick High School and married Howard Gritsch on May 16, 1934 in Brooklyn. Dora helped her husband on the farm and owned and operated a women’s clothing shop, Dora’s Style Shoppe in Brooklyn from 1959-1963. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed sewing, shopping, cooking, making jellies and jams and canning foods. She also enjoyed her flowers.
