Richard L. Hartley, age 65, died Monday, February 13, 2006 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, in Iowa City, from complications of cancer. Graveside services: 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 17, 2006 at the Marengo Cemetery with Rev. Jackie Tjarks officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday, February 16, 2006 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Becky; a son, Richard W. Rich Hartley of Marengo; a daughter, Melissa Herrmann and husband Eric of Marengo, three grandchildren, Joseph, Anna, and Ellie Herrmann; a sister, Betty Jo Mullen of Davenport and a brother-in-law, William Hobie Gilman of Knoxville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard LaVerne Hartley was born June 24, 1940 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Donald and Lucy Wade Hartley. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1958 and served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1966. He married Carolyn Becky Gilman on September 17, 1961 in Ottumwa. Richard was a foreman at Amana Refrigeration for 39 years, retiring in 1999. Following his retirement, he was employed part time as a parts inspector for the Collis Corporation. Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing, attending auctions and watching sports. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
