Betty L. Herman, age 67 of Marengo died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at her home from complications of lung cancer. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Katie Z. Dawson officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, November 28, 2008 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.

She is survived by her children, Cindy Holyman (Bill) of South English, Jim Herman of Coralville, Dale Herman (Nancee) of Atkins, Rodney Herman of Marengo and Penny Mews of Marengo; 13 grandchildren, Joshua, Amanda, Chris, Greg, Chad, Sara, Nolan, Nathan, Nevin, Nicole, Tiffany, Andrew and Thomas; 4 great-grandchildren, Lyla, William, Jon and Piper; a brother Louis Knapp, Jr. and a sister, Mary Becker. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl in 2007, a brother Raymond Knapp, and a grandson, James Parmenter.

Betty Lou Knapp was born November 24, 1941 in Bertram, Iowa, the daughter of Louis Edward Knapp, Sr. and Rose Emma Schley Knapp. She attended the Bertram schools and Hilton High School in Conroy. Betty married Earl Donald “Sonny” Herman, Jr. on April 19, 1958 at the Wesley Methodist Church in Marengo. The couple resided in Marengo for 48 years. She was employed at Amana Refrigeration as an assembly person for 29 years, retiring in 2003. Betty was a member of the Marengo American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and bingo.
