Farrell “Dean” Hoit, age 84, died Friday, October 19, 2007 at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center following a brief illness. Memorial Services: 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, October 31, 2007, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Jim Davis officiating. The family will receive friends after 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at the North English Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

He is survived by his sister, Virginia Blackford Sullivan of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Farrell “Dean” Hoit was born June 27, 1923 in Sumner Township, Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Morra M. Hoit and Jessie E. Smith Hoit. He graduated from the Ladora High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a surgical technician. He was employed at a cement block factory in Cedar Rapids, and then worked for many years at the Amana Woolen Mills, retiring from there. Following retirement he worked at Pioneer Seed in Marengo, sorting corn during harvest time.

Dean was a quiet man who believed in doing the “right thing” and lived his life accordingly.
