Janice Lee Hopwood, age 75, died Friday, July 3, 2009 at the Mayflower Home in Grinnell following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with Chaplain Christine Tinker officiating. Burial will be in the Golden Rod Cemetery, Deep River, IA. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.

Janice is survived by two children, Ann (Gene) Adkins of Brooklyn, and Stan (Nicole) Hopwood of Newton and special friend Tom Morton of Guernsey; five grandchildren, Kristin Adkins (Curt) Funk, Aaron (Vanessa) Adkins, Dane, Tyler and Nicolae Hopwood.; three great-grandchildren, Taylor McDaniel, Andres and Diego Adkins; and a brother James Motes (Jeannie) of Concord, New Hampshire. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1992, a brother John Motes, and three sisters, Edith and Audrey Hayslett, and Nina Timm.

Janice Lee Hayslett was born August 21, 1933 in Fincastle, Virginia, the daughter of John and Elsie Bosserman Hayslett. She married Raymond Gerald Hopwood on December 24, 1947. The couple made their home in Deep River, eventually moving to Brooklyn and then to Guernsey. Janice has resided at Mayflower Health Center in Grinnell for the last 2 years. She was a member of the Guernsey United Methodist Church. Janice loved dogs, cats, birds, her Canadian geese, chickens and her pet turkey. She will be fondly remembered as a caregiver to many people, including serving as an EMT on the East Poweshiek Ambulance service. She enjoyed baking and crafting.
