Veda G. Kanke , age 85, died Friday April 1, 2005 at the Marengo Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 4, 2005 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Pastor Douglas Morton officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Sunday, April 3, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to St. John’s Lutheran Preschool or Amenity Hospice.

She is survived by her son Wayne and wife Linda of Marengo, two grandchildren, Jock (Mandi) and Stacy Healey of Marengo; and 5 great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Katelin, Andrea, Tre and Lorenzo. She is also survived by three sisters, Ella Meeks of Marengo, Laura Frey of Dubuque and Cora Schoenfelder of Van Horne. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Lloyd and Clarence Furler.

Veda Gladys Furler was born October 11, 1919 in Van Horne, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Minnie Webert Furler. She received her education in the Van Horne schools and married Myron F. Kanke on November 10, 1942 in Van Horne. He died in 1987. In 1992, Veda moved to Marengo, where she was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the RSVP and was very active in the Marengo American Legion Auxiliary.
