Richard C. Kriegel, age 80 of Marengo, died Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City following an extended illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 1, 2008, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Brian Shepley and Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo with military honors. Friends may call from 2 to 6 P.M. Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo where there will be a Scripture Service at 6 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.

He is survived by his wife Donna; two sons, Daryl (Janette) of Marengo and Dennis (Teresa) of Williamsburg; four daughters, Elaine McBride (Mike) of Marengo, Mary Jeane Watson (Rich) of Laverkin, Utah, Michelle Blythe (Doug) of Williamsburg, and Jillynn Young of Marengo; 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jim, Glen Joe, Lawrence and Kenneth, all of Brooklyn; and two sisters, Gladys Healey of Toledo, and Mary Jane Rich of Nashville, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Matthew McBride, 8 brothers, Lyle, Elmer, Lloyd, Melvin, William, Louis, Wayne and Gerald, and two sisters, Stella Henley and Marge Henley.

Richard Charles Kriegel was born March 10, 1928 in Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of John and Mary Roth Kriegel. He received his education in the Poweshiek county schools and he married Donna LeFevre in Clearfield, Utah on August 23, 1950. Richard served with the U.S. Marine Corp for 3 years during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, Richard farmed in Poweshiek and Iowa Counties until 1977. He then was employed as a pressman at Amana Refrigeration for 23 years, retiring in 1995. He remained active by working as a groundskeeper for the Iowa County Fairgrounds for 12 additional years. Richard was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo, the Marengo American Legion Post #76, and IAM Local 1526 Union.
