| Daniel Lanning, age 92 of Marengo, died Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Rose Haven Nursing Home following an extended illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 22, 2008, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Katie Z. Dawson officiating. Burial will be in the Victor Memorial Cemetery, Victor, Iowa. Friends may call from 2 to 5 P.M. Sunday, September 21, 2008 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to First United Methodist Church, Marengo or Amenity Hospice.
Daniel is survived by his wife Mary of Marengo; nieces and nephews, Dolores Schlessman (lee) of Denver, CO, Diane Beberick (Joseph) of Lakewood, CO, Mary Ellen Fullmer (Ed) of Omaha, NE, Marianne Ocheltree of Victor and Tom Shaull (Catherine) of Tipton; and several sisters-in-laws. Also surviving are good friends, Bob and Jackie Wagner of Marengo. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James and Homer Lanning and three sisters, Ruth Ocheltree, Naomi Mumby and Esther Jann.
Daniel Lanning was born September 29, 1915 in Victor, Iowa, the son of Daniel P. and Fanny McBride Lanning. He graduated from Victor High School in 1933 and attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, IA for 2 years. Daniel served in the U.S. Army during World War II stationed in Japan. He married Mary Jane Kurie on July 17, 1949 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He worked at the Breese Company for 35 years. The couple also worked part time with Jake Valentine at Hoover-Valentine Funeral Home. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Marengo, the American Legion in Marengo and Ladora and the Ladora Town Council. |
