| Ella M. Meeks, age 89, Of Marengo, died Sunday, February 25, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 3, 2007, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Rev. Douglas Morton officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Friday, March 2, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her children, Marcella Meyer of South Amana, Marvin Meeks and wife Virginia of Tucson, AZ, and Marcia Finley and husband Lowell of Marengo; 7 grandchildren, Scott (Lisa) Meyer of Williamsburg, Susannah (Alex) Rayas of El Paso, TX, Kimberly (Scott) Fillenworth of Marengo, Tracy Folkmann of N. Liberty, Jeff (Kim) Folkmann of Kansas City, MO, Jordan and Nicole Folkmann of Marengo and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Cora Schoenfelder of Van Horne and Laura Frey of Dubuque. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glen in 1987, two brothers, Lloyd and Clarence Furler, a sister, Veda Kanke and a grandchild Sarah Wetjen and her husband Gary, and a son-in-law, Floyd Meyer.
Ella Marie Furler was born September 12, 1917 in rural Benton county, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Minnie (Webert) Furler. She received her education in the rural Benton County schools and married Glen Meeks on August 30, 1941 in Dubuque, Iowa. She was employed as a waitress at the Homestead Inn besides being a homemaker and mother. Ella was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo and she enjoyed gardening, embroidery, and baking angel food cakes for birthdays. |
