| Viola Nieland, age 92 of Houston, TX, formerly of Marengo, died Wednesday evening, April 27, 2005 at Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston from congestive heart failure. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 6, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church in Marengo with Rev. Morris Hurd officiating. Burial will be in International Cemetery, rural Luzerne, IA. Friends may call from 5 to 7 P.M. Thursday, May 5, 2005 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to First United Methodist Church or the Marengo Public Library Building Fund.
She is survived by a son, Robert B. Nieland and wife Andrea of Hickory, NC; a daughter, Jonel Ankrum and husband Charles of Missouri City, TX; five grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew and Melody Ankrum and David and Daniel Nieland and two great-grandchildren, Peyton and Morgan Ankrum.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lester Nieland on March 13, 1982, two brothers, Guy and Tunis Wisgerhof, and four sisters, Nellie McMahon, JoAnn Muller, Areka Fehrman and Gertrude Paul.
Viola Wisgerhof was born August 1, 1912 in Kellogg, IA, the daughter of Cornelius and Gertie Van Woerkman Wisgerhof. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and was employed as a grade school teacher in Marengo for over 25 years. Viola married Lester C. Nieland on December 20, 1936 in Laurel, IA.
She was a member of the PEO, National Honor Society, Kappa Delta Pi and Gold Key. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marengo and was active in the United Methodist Women’s Association. Her favorite pastimes were reading and music. |
