Mabel H. Novak, age 94, died Monday, October 1, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness. Graveside Services: 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 4, 2007, Vining National Cemetery, Vining, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Kloster Funeral Home in Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.

She is survived by her son Robert Dee Novak and wife Noellie of Richmond, VA; her daughter, Linda Fisher and husband Paul of South Amana 16 grandchildren, Mike Crouse, Robyn Crouse, Wendy Hinman, Leigh Crouse, Corbin Crouse, David Crouse, Dee Novak, Debbie Andrew, Dawn Watson, Duke Novak, Denise Otte, Dan Shoup, Jeff Runge, Mark Runge, Bonnie Fisher, and Mindy Fisher; 26 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, Shirley Crouse and Winifred Bertelli, a grandson, Jim Fisher, a great-granddaughter, Lindsay Shoup, five sisters, and two brothers.

Mabel Helena Erickson was born August 3, 1913 near Traer, in Benton County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Helena Reimer Erickson. She graduated from Traer High School and married Wilfred C. Novak on May 4, 1934 in Mason City, Iowa. He died March 8, 1964. Mabel was a homemaker. Mabel has made her home in South Amana with her daughter since 1974. She moved to Colonial Manor in September 2006 due to failing health.
