Richard Allen Ogden, age 71 of Hopkinton, formerly of Marengo, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the VA Hospital in Iowa City. Memorial Services: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, Iowa with Rev. Katie Dawson officiating. Inurnment will be in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Marengo American Legion Post 76.

Survivors include his children Scott Wickwire of Hampton, Laura Hovienga of Hampton, Patricia (Thomas) Colthurst of Wapello, Sharon (Roger) Cummings of Cashton, WI, and Jeffrey (Diane) Ogden of Manchester; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a sister Shirley Manders of Waukee, four brothers, V. Norman (Marla) Ogden of Lexington, KY, Ronald (Susanne) Ogden of Lincoln, NE, Bruce (Debbie) Ogden of Marion and Steven (Cindy) Ogden of Des Moines; a sister-in-law, Corrine Ogden of Cedar Rapids and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Kathryn Hughes Ogden, a daughter, Gezelle, a grandchild, a great-grandchild, a brother Charles and his stepfather, Richard Murphy.

Richard Allen Ogden was born October 24, 1937 in Altoona, Kansas, the son of Victor Nathan and Kathryn Hughes Ogden. He received his education in the Marengo schools and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Following his service duty, he resided in Cedar Rapids and married Erna Radkey. The couple had 3 children, losing one to cancer at an early age. They later divorced. He worked for Thorpe Well Drilling and then for Howard M. White Well Drilling. In 1963 Richard married Barbara Packer Slater and the couple made their home in the Manchester area. He adopted her three children. The couple later divorced. He established Ogden Well Service and continued to operate it for many years. He was proud to have five generations of Ogdens with him in this business. Following his retirement from the well service, Richard was a driver for the Amish community.
