| Ruth Marie Olson, age 89, of Sacramento, CA, formerly of Marengo, died Sunday, May 1, 2005 at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 7, 2005 at First Lutheran Church, Conroy with Rev. Jackie Tjarks officiating. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:30 A.M. Saturday at the church. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by a son, John Robert Olson and wife Delores of Pollock Pines, CA, and a daughter, Rebecca K. Olson of Sacramento (Elk Grove), CA; two grandsons, Eric Olson of Denver and Ben Olson with the Peace Corp in Albania. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Thelma Borg and husband Arnold of Cedar Rapids, and Ann Amosson of St. Cloud, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruth Marie Olson was born January 14, 1916 in Norway, IA, the daughter of Ole S. and Stella T. Hage Olson. She graduated from Norway High School and Coe College, Cedar Rapids. She was an elementary school teacher, in Conroy, Ottumwa and Cedar Rapids. Ruth married Robert E. Olson on July 3, 1943 while he was stationed on the West Coast during World War II. Following the war, the couple lived in Marengo until the 1960’s, moving to Cedar Rapids, Los Angeles, Chicago and Oklahoma City. Ruth sold real estate while in Oklahoma City. Robert died on November 17, 1998. In 2000, Ruth moved to California to live with her daughter.
Ruth enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, antiques and spending time with her family and friends.
